Kallalei (ka-la-lay) Ryden is entering her second-year in the Joint Degree Program in Canadian Common Law and Indigenous Legal Orders (JD/JID) at the University of Victoria. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a minor in Environmental Studies, also from the University of Victoria, where she competed as a Varsity Athlete on the Vikes Cross Country and Track team.
Kallalei grew up on the Sunshine Coast, B.C., and in Maui, Hawaiʻi. With a background in conservation fieldwork and current work engaging with policy, she is interested in developing practical, actionable solutions to environmental challenges. She is moving from a 1L executive position to serve as a co-president of the Environmental Law Club in September.
Outside of her academic and professional pursuits, Kallalei enjoys running, surfing, reading, drawing, birding, and camping.
