Ashley Wehrhahn is a recent graduate of the four-year Joint Degree Program in the Canadian Common Law (JD) and Indigenous Legal Orders (JID) at the University of Victoria Faculty of Law. Ashley graduated with a concentration in Environmental Law and Sustainability and received the William McIntyre Medal for exhibiting the highest qualities of community service, student leadership and academic excellence.
Ashley is Plains Cree (Nêhiyawêwin) and a band member of Sweetgrass First Nation, SK in Treaty 6 Territory and Homeland of the
Métis.
During law school Ashley was the Co-Chair of the Indigenous Law Students Association (ILSA) 2023-2025, on the ELC Board of Directors, and a Research Assistant for ELC Executive Director Deborah Curran. Ashley has also worked as a summer student with the Indigenous Law Research Unit (ILRU) and JFK Law LLP.
Ashley is passionate about environmental justice, and she hopes to build a legal career that is grounded in Indigenous laws and ways of knowing to protect and safeguard the land for future generations.
