Our 2025–26 Annual Report highlights a year of meaningful work supporting communities across British Columbia through public interest environmental law while continuing to create hands-on learning opportunities for students. This year, the ELC provided more than 7,500 hours of legal support to over 60 client groups, working with communities, organizations, and Indigenous Nations on a wide range of environmental challenges. At the same time, 31 law students gained practical, real-world experience through the Clinic Program, contributing directly to impactful legal work.

A key part of this work involved helping communities navigate complex legal issues in clear and practical ways. The ELC developed accessible, plain-language resources on topics like biosolids management and remining, making it easier for communities to understand environmental risks and advocate for stronger protections. By translating complex law into usable tools and insights, the ELC helps communities guide their decision making.

Bringing people together also remained central to our approach. Through initiatives like the Research-a-thon, a public interest environmental law conference, and the Associates Program, we created spaces for collaborative learning and knowledge-sharing among students, lawyers, and community members.

Supported by a strong network of partners, funders, and donors, the ELC continues to grow its impact. This year’s report reflects a collaborative, community-driven approach to environmental law—one that builds connections, strengthens understanding, and supports better environmental outcomes across BC.
