Collaboration for Protecting Eelgrass

Prepared in partnership with the Tsleil-Waututh Nation (TWN), Collaboration for Protecting Eelgrass outlines options that the TWN and Village of Belcarra could explore in order to protect the Bedwell Bay eelgrass beds.

Urban and industrial activities have severely impacted the region’s eelgrass beds, which are crucial for fish habitats and the TWN’s cultural well-being. Collaborative efforts could lead to a healthier marine ecosystem and support TWN’s cultural practices and rights.

The document helped inform discussions at the Burrard Inlet Eelgrass Symposium, which united key decision makers and eelgrass experts in the region to come to agreement with respect to restoration and protection of eelgrass in Burrard Inlet.
